DHARAMSHALA: Amid Mother’s Day celebrations, a woman from Chamba district got herself isolated with her 2-year-old Covid-19 positive daughter. The woman herself tested negative for Covid-19 but insisted on staying with her daughter in isolation at the Covid care centre.
The administration allowed her to do so after she made repeated requests. Both have been kept at the Ayurvedic hospital in Chamba, which has been converted into a Covid-19 care centre.
The baby tested positive for Covid-19 this Friday.
People in the region commended the selflessness of the woman who exposed herself to the virus for her daughter.
Rajesh Guleri, chief medical officer, Chamba confirmed that both mother and child have been kept in the centre and all safety measures have been taken. “The baby girl is also suffering from a heart ailment and that is being considered for treatment later. We are taking proper care. I went myself to provide every necessary item to the baby girl,” he said.
Chamba deputy commissioner Vivek Bhatia said everyone is concerned about the child and they would leave no stone unturned to provide best possible care to her. The child’s father, a truck driver, also tested positive for Covid-19 recently.
In another incident which took place this month, mother of a 21-year-old youth who died of Covid-19 also tested positive. She had accompanied the youth to Delhi where he was treated for renal failure and later, when he was moved to Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla.
The 47-year-old woman was quarantined after her son’s death and was tested positive later.
